چکیده
Enabled by the advancement in radio frequency technologies, convergence of radar and communication systems becomes increasingly promising is envisioned as a key feature future sixth-generation networks. Recently, frequency-hopping (FH) MIMO has been introduced to underlay dual-function radar-communication (DFRC) systems. Superior many previous radar-centric DFRC designs, symbol rate FH-MIMO radar-based (FH-MIMO DFRC) can exceed pulse repetition frequency. However, practical issues, particularly those crucial achieving effective data communications, are unexplored or unsolved. To promote awareness general understanding novel DFRC, this article devoted providing timely introduction DFRC. We comprehensively review essential aspects DFRC: channel/signal models, signaling strategies, modulation/demodulation processing, channel estimation methods, name few. also highlight major remaining issues suggest potential solutions shed light on research directions.

Identification of Frequency Hopping Communications
A method to detect and characterize a frequency hopping (FH) signal is proposed. The context is Spectrum Surveillance. Hence, no a priori information is available: the parameters of the modulation must be automatically determined. Spread spectrum (SS) modulations are well-known for their low probability of interception (LPI). Nevertheless the aim of this paper is to show that, using a time–freq...
متن کاملCSSF MIMO RADAR: Low-Complexity Compressive Sensing Based MIMO Radar That Uses Step Frequency
A new approach is proposed, namely CSSF MIMO radar, which applies the technique of step frequency (SF) to compressive sensing (CS) based multi-input multi-output (MIMO) radar. The proposed approach enables high resolution range, angle and Doppler estimation, while transmitting narrowband pulses. The problem of joint angle-Doppler-range estimation is first formulated to fit the CS framework, i.e...

متن کاملLow-Complexity Design of Frequency-Hopping Codes for MIMO Radar for Arbitrary Doppler
There has been a recent interest in the application of Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) communication concepts to radars. Recent literature discusses optimization of orthogonal frequency-hopping waveforms for MIMO radars, based on a newly formulated MIMO ambiguity function. Existing literature however makes the assumption of small target Doppler. We first extend the scope of this ambiguity...
متن کاملSparse Frequency Waveform Design for Mimo Radar
Multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) radar has superior performance to conventional one. It has been introduced to almost every application field of conventional radar in recent years. In practical application, MIMO radar also faces the problem of congested spectrum assignment, which makes it not possible to have a continuous clear band with large bandwidth. Sparse frequency waveform that cont...
